Music Monday! The Beach Boys – God Only Knows

I had the pleasure of sitting before Mr. Al Jardine this past week. The show was held at a small intimate venue and Al Jardine offered insight on the creation of some of the top hits played by The Beach Boys and his life as a Beach Boy. I’m glad I did not miss it. Every time I hear “God Only Knows” I choke up a little.  Like Sir Paul McCartney, it is my all time favorite by The Beach Boys. Whats your favorite Beach Boys song?

I may not always love you
But long as there are stars above you
You never need to doubt it
I’ll make you so sure about it
God only knows what I’d be without you

If you should ever leave me
Though life would still go on, believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would livin’ do me
God only knows what I’d be without you

God only knows what I’d be without you

If you should ever leave me
Though life would still go on, believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would livin’ do me
God only knows what I’d be without you

God only knows what I’d be without you

This is such a beautiful song – I love all of their songs that have their signature harmonies like “All Summer Long” and “Until I Die”, and love the songwriting and moody sonic harmony of “Surf’s Up.” Not sure if you saw the all-star tribute to “God Only Knows”, but I posted a story about the video here – https://johnrieber.com/2014/10/10/god-only-knows-all-star-bbc-music-video-summers-gone-for-the-beach-boys-classic-surfs-up/

Oh I love this song. So much emotion radiates from it. “Little Surfer Girl” comes in second, and “Good Vibrations” third. Just like The Beatles, The Beach Boys have so many good options for different moods.

“Good Vibrations” is up there for me as well! Along with “Darlin'” Agreed! Matt Jardine made an interesting point at the show that no photos exist of The Beach Boys and The Beatles together. Interesting thought that in this day in age it would have been splattered everywhere.

Great songs! Whoa, I never realized that. We have Elvis with Nixon, but no Lennon with Wilson (those make some good song lyrics). What a shame!

‘Til I Die is my favourite, but this is one of my favourites too. I love the vocal tag team with Brian Wilson, Carl Wilson, and Bruce Johnston at the end.
